This game is referred to by most as Blackjack, others call it Twenty-One, however the goal of the game is the same: To beat the dealer!
This popular table game can be played with 1, 2, 4, 6 or 8 decks of cards. This game can be played 1 of 3 ways: Single, double or multi-deck. In both Single and Double, the dealer with hold the cards and disperse them to the players. The multi-deck games are dealt out of a tray.
In single and double games, cards are dealt face down, where the player is not to pick up the cards. In the multi-deck game the cards will be dealt face up to player.
In this popular game, the aim is to beat the dealer, by having your cards totalling more than the dealers, but not over the total number 21. If yours or the dealers card hand goes over the number 21, then you are considered ‘Bust’, which means you lose that round. If the dealer ‘Busts’, then you win. It is the games rule for the player to always go first.
This game is all about the numbers of the cards at face value.
- Cards from 2-10 are counted at face value
- The King, Queen and Jack have a value of 10
- Ace can count as 1 or 11
You may have heard the terms Hard Hand or Soft Hand. Hard Hand represents a hand that does not have an ace, because the value of that hand cannot change. A Soft Hand represents a hand that contains an ace, because the value can have multiple values.
Keep In Mind
If you draw to a soft hand with three cards totalling a sum where counting an ace as eleven puts you over 21 then the hand becomes a hard hand.
- Example: You are dealt an ace and a two. You have 3 or 13. If you draw a ten after, you now have a hard 13 because if you count the ace as 11 you would have 24, where you are then considered ‘Bust’.
The blackjack table is a semi-circle table and is specifically for the game of Blackjack. Each player has their own square on the table, buying your chips directly from the dealer or bringing them through from another game. Each player will place their bets in the mutual circle on the board, and once this is completed the game begins.
